Planet Coruscant
General Information
Most of the terrain on Coruscant goes unnoticed as the heavily human populated planet is covered in cities with skyscrapers. Coruscant is the capitol of the Galactic Republic. The planet is sometimes referred to as the Imperial Center, or the Queen of the Core, as it tends to be the hub of the Galaxy. Coruscant is a wealthy planet as it is an important part of many major trade routes.
Coruscant is well organized. The planet is divided into quadrants, which are in turn divided into zones. These zones are each given a specific purpose such as industrial, financial, manufacturing, residential, commercial, or governmental. Cities, including Galactic City, are also broken down into levels, megablocks, blocks, and subblocks.
History
The Tuangs were the first to attempt to conquer the human planet of Coruscant around 200,000 BBY. Eventually the Tangs were driven from the planet. By 95,000 BBY the planet still remained widely unchallenged. The population had begun to grow to the extent that buildings were built upon buildings, creating lower ghetto levels which never saw light, to the cities.
Coruscant was not conquered by another civilization until 30,000 BBY when the Infinite Empire of the Rakata used human slaves from the Coruscant to build Star Forge. Eventually the Rakata endured a plague that caused the collapse of the Infinite Empire. Some of the human population had been displaced onto other planets, but Coruscant was once again free. The next two centuries were spent using hyperspace cannons to link the planet to other Core Worlds.
In 25,000 BBY Coruscant became the capital of the Galactic Republic due to the invention of the hyperdrive. The Jedi became linked to the planet and joined the Republic through this invention, and by the establishment of a trade route to Ossus. While these developments advanced the planet of Coruscant, they also caused the planet to become a target for enemies of the Republic.
